Happy Wednesday! I’m starting a new series here, tagging along on the “What I Ate Wednesday” theme that so many other bloggers have been doing forever.
I’ve always loved reading ‘day in the life’ types of posts, probably because I started reading some of my favorite bloggers when everyone was doing what I ate posts everyday. It’s fun to see what other people are eating; one, because we’re all nosy, and two, it’s a fun way to get some new meal ideas. So until I get tired of doing this, Wednesdays are going to be “What I Ate” day on Dirt to Delish!
(Obviously, as I’m posting this on Wednesday morning, this is recapping Tuesday.)
5:50 a.m. – My alarm goes off for the first time. I’m not a morning person, so I usually set about 10 alarms, hoping that I’ll get up before the last one. Today, I hit snooze only twice before getting up around 6:10. I made Jim promise to drag me out of bed when he got up this morning so we could start our runs together. It’s been so hot here lately that by 7 a.m. it’s fairly brutal, so I was hoping to get out before the heat and humidity really set in today.
6:20 – We’re out the door for a run. It actually cooled down a bit overnight so it was pleasant to run this morning. Sydney was excited to have two running buddies; Jim’s usually done before I set out the door so we often cross paths. Jim splits off after a mile or so and I keep trucking along for a total of 4 miles. Glad that’s done! Bonus- I knocked out 3/4 of my 10,000 steps for the day.
7:15 – I like to start off the morning with a glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon, so I grab that immediately after stretching. Hot water in the winter, cold in the summer. Lately I’ve been adding a few fresh mint leaves.
7:30-8:15 – Get ready for work, pack up breakfast and lunch, maybe throw in a load of laundry, and I’m out the door. It helps when I put together meals the night before; last night I made an extra roasted veggie bowl, so today was easy! Coffee for the road:
8:45 – Arrive at work. The coffee holds me over until 9:30 or 10 most days, so at that point I’ll have breakfast at my desk. It’s not my favorite habit, but I’m not an early eater so breakfast at home doesn’t really work for me.
Today I had a yogurt bowl: Brown Cow cream top yogurt (plain), blueberries, strawberries, sunflower seeds and topped with a squeeze of lemon and flaxseed oil. This bowl always includes a quarter cup of raw, rolled oats, but I left them on the counter at home this morning. 🙁
This is a pretty typical breakfast; I rotate between yogurt bowls, overnight oats and smoothies. Yogurt bowls are easiest because I can keep most of the ingredients in the refrigerator at work so it’s less to deal with in the morning rush.
8:45-12 – Work work work
12:15-1:15 p.m. – Lunchtime! I try to get out of the office over lunch to break up the day, so this is when I plan to run errands, get groceries, etc. I usually wait to actually eat my lunch until I get back to the office and start working again, since I eat a later breakfast. If I don’t have time to run in the morning or I know I’m going to have a busy evening, I’ll sometimes pack some workout gear and take a long walk and listen to an audiobook or podcast. I didn’t have anything pressing to do today and my coworkers were out, so I stayed in and ended up eating earlier while finishing up yesterday’s post and starting on this one.
If I have salad or some type of bowl for dinner, I’ll try to make double at the same time so I have a lunch ready to go. This bowl is an exact replica of the one I had the night before, although it looked nicer in a real bowl!
Dried pineapple for dessert. (I need to stop buying this… can’t stop once I open the bag!)
1:30-5 – Work work work. I’m really bad at moving around during the day, even though I have my Fitbit set to alert me if I haven’t moved enough each hour. I do try to keep my tumbler constantly full of water, so I drink a lot of H20 throughout the day and get some movement in. (For those of you who don’t drink enough water throughout the day- I find that a straw really, really helps! I also keep lemon juice in the fridge at work so I have flavored water.)
5 p.m. – No meetings or after work commitments (woo!) so it’s easy to head out the door right around 5. I’m lucky to have a 20 minute commute. I’m not sure that 20 minutes even qualifies for a commute?
At home, I grab a quick snack of cherries (and more water) and relax with Jim and Sydney.
6:30 – Time to start dinner; pour myself a glass of red. 🙂
7:30 – Cook, test recipe, tweak recipe and take some pictures for a future post. Finally it’s time for dinner. This one was a winner! (I’ll share later this week)
I ate a much smaller portion than pictured since I had so many tastes while cooking. 😉 After dinner I had a ‘dessert’ glass of kefir, a new-to-me drink. I’m hoping the extra probiotics will help with some tummy issues, but I also like the taste so it really does seem like a dessert; kind of like melted, tart frozen yogurt.
8 p.m. – Hopped in the car and headed to the lake to take Jim’s new drone for a quick spin! We were hoping to catch some wildlife on the camera, but only spotted ourselves.
Luckily, the battery doesn’t last more than 20 minutes which worked out perfectly with my plans for an early bedtime.
10 p.m. – In bed and ready to find a good book!
