The day has finally come- I got the ok to start running again! I had my first post-baby doctors visit yesterday and couldn’t wait to get the go-ahead to resume running after a 3-ish month break.
The window of opportunity for me to run is pretty small throughout the day, so I was up at 6 this morning to nurse Annie, throw on my running clothes and get out the door before Jim left for work. I didn’t have any specific goals in mind but was able to do my usual 3-mile loop pretty easily and without stopping for a break. The things you can do without a 9 pound baby in your belly! I think running pretty far into pregnancy and lots of long walks over the past 5 weeks allowed me to get back to it so quickly. A new pair of running shoes doesn’t hurt, either!
After my run, I even had time to grab a quick shower before Jim headed out the door. Fingers crossed that I can make this a regular thing; it feels SO good to start off the day with a workout under your belt!
After showering and feeding Annie again, it was time to feed myself!
I’ve been craving a cold green smoothie for the past few days and finally picked up the ingredients yesterday at Aldi. Unfortunately, the spinach from my garden is finished for the time being (not a hot weather plant) so it was bagged spinach for this smoothie.
My usual recipe includes a large handful of spinach, half a frozen banana, about a cup of frozen strawberries, 2 tbsp chia seeds and about a cup of unsweetened almond milk. I often add a scoop of protein powder, but I’m not sure how I feel about protein powder while breastfeeding yet, so I’m leaving that out for now and relying on the chia seeds for protein.
Side note- if you’re looking for good prices on healthy food, check out Aldi! Chia seeds are like $10 per bag at the local grocery store, and I’m able to get a similar size at Aldi for about $3.
Along with the smoothie I had a piece of sprouted grain toast with peanut butter and frozen blueberries. I always need something to chew on in addition to a smoothie!
Annie was able to occupy herself in the swing just long enough for me to make breakfast and finish my toast before she was ready to be entertained again, so we headed out for a short walk before it gets too hot.
Usually a walk puts her to sleep but today she’s all about the snuggling so she’s hanging out in the wrap while I type up this post and get things done around the house.
We have both the Boba Wrap and Ergo 360, but so far the Boba has been my wrap of choice. It’s a little complicated to get tied but once Annie’s in I feel like she’s more secure since she’s still so small. She usually snoozes away but occasionally likes to check things out. I’m looking forward to her gaining a little more neck control so she can really look around and see what’s going on, and I’m also hoping to get a little more comfortable with the Ergo in the near future. We do have the infant insert and I think once I get the hang of it, the Ergo will be an easier choice especially when we’re out and about.
This post has been a little all over the place, but I’d like to get back to the ‘live blogging’ style of sharing what’s going on day to day. Most of my posts are typed up ahead of time and scheduled, so it’s fun to do this style of blogging every now and then, even if it is a little random.
Check back tomorrow for one of those scheduled posts (a delicious and easy recipe) and hopefully I’ll be back with another ‘live’ post on Friday!
