For the first full week after the holidays, this week hasn’t dragged on like I expected it to. I’m starting into a big project at work that’s going to keep me busy for the next few months, and at home we’re starting to get things in order before baby’s arrival. I’m trying to tackle the organizational side of things, while Jim’s doing the manual labor like painting the hallway… one of the few pregnancy-related things I’m happy that I can’t do! 😉
I’m anxiously awaiting the return of longer (and warmer) days so that I can get back to more regular workouts. Indoor workouts just don’t appeal to me like going for a run or a long walk, so they’ve definitely fallen by the wayside for the past few weeks. Other than yoga, I haven’t been all that active and I’m starting to get antsy! Unfortunately, the warm-up we had this week is likely to be short-lived, and I know that the most brutal part of the winter is yet to come.
In other news, here’s a roundup of what I’ve been loving this week, and a few things that are helping me to get through the cold winter months!
A Mocktail Recipe
Since it’s Friday and all…
I figured that the holidays without wine or champagne were going to be difficult, and I was right. Luckily, I found a mocktail that helped to make holiday parties feel more festive, even without a glass of red in hand. The recipe is based on a mocktail that I had at a local restaurant:
1/2 cup cranberry juice
juice of 1/2 lime
top with ginger ale
Serve over ice and add a few frozen cranberries as garnish.
Aldi is one of my healthy living ‘secrets’, and every time I shop there I find myself wondering why I’m not there for groceries every week. The honest answer is that:
1. shopping at Aldi means that I need to do a little more planning,
and 2. they don’t have everything I need.
But they do have most of it! And at a better price than where I usually do our grocery shopping. I’d estimate the haul you see above around $75-80 at the other grocery store. At Aldi, my bill was a whopping $51. For fresh fruits and veggies, staples like quinoa and yogurt, and a few extras needed for this week’s meal plan. I’m trying to get our grocery spending under control and Aldi is a big part of the game plan. I’m planning to do a post in the near future about shopping at Aldi and a few tips for keeping your grocery budget down while still practicing healthy eating!
I’ve made it a priority to spend less time on social media and more time reading, writing and blogging in the new year. This week I spent a few nights working on updating Dirt to Delish. Check out what’s new…
- The recipe page! Hopefully easier to navigate than it was in the past. Sort by course or see them all at once.
- Get posts in your inbox…. Use the little ‘subscribe’ box in the right-hand column to get posts delivered by email!
- Updated Pinterest boards. Follow me here!
- Updated Facebook page.
- Travel and Baby pages have been updated to make them easier to navigate.
Am I missing anything? What would you like to see on Dirt to Delish? I’d love to hear your suggestions for upcoming posts!!
My poor brush was out of batteries for a few weeks until I finally remembered to pick some up last week, and my skin is thanking me! I can’t do much about the pale winter skin tone, but this brush helps to take care of other winter-related skin issues and makes my face look about 50% better. I use it at night with cleanser, coat my face with a thick moisturizer while I sleep, then try to just splash with water in the morning rather than using another round of cleanser. This seems to be keeping my skin from drying out and looking as dull as it has for the past few weeks. (I have this brush, but I’m sure there are plenty of options out there.)
Pregnant Lady Emoji
Great timing, Apple! You can expect to see this emoji pop up on most of my Instagram posts from now until May. Thanks for the heads up, Emma! 🙂

And I’ll leave you with Sydney’s Friday Favorite:
Rice is her favorite treat (besides peanut butter), so naturally Jim decided she needed the 10 lb. bulk bag. I’m enjoying having that take up half the shelf in my pantry. 😉
