Good morning! We got a little bit of a late start over here so I’m trying to play catch up before the day totally gets away from us.
I had plans to get up for a run before Jim left for work, but after a 3:30 a.m. wakeup call from the little one, the alarm at 6 just came way too fast and I made the executive decision to sleep through it. Crossing my fingers that I can squeeze in a long walk today or maybe a run once Jim’s back home.
In the meantime I’m catching Shania on the Today show and shoveling breakfast in while Annie snoozes in the carrier. Despite the warm weather I’ve been on a big steel cut oats kick lately.
I always add half a mashed banana while they’re cooking to sweeten things up and throw in frozen strawberries to cool the bowl down. If you’ve never tried steel cut oats, I highly recommend them! They’re a little chewier than rolled oats but if you cook them right they’re absolutely delicious and super filling! (Check out this post for some oatmeal ideas!)
I’ve got a pretty long to-do list to accomplish today so that we can kick back for the weekend and enjoy Jim’s first Father’s Day, so let’s get to this week’s Friday Favorites!
Baby & Puppy BFFs
I know it’s going to be quite awhile before Annie and Sydney really become best friends, but they’re starting to warm up to each other. Actually, I think it’s Sydney who’s starting to warm up to Annie… the 5 week old baby likely has no clue that Sydney exists. But I’ve caught a few of these sniff/smile moments this week and I can’t wait until they’re actually playing together!
I made a batch of energy bites at the beginning of the week and have been relying on them as a quick pick-me-up throughout the day. Bonus- they fit perfectly in the cooler along with A’s milk if we’re out! I just combine dates, oats, chia seeds and almonds in the food processor and form the ‘dough’ into balls, then store them in the refrigerator.
Earlier this week I got the ok to run again and couldn’t wait to get out there and put my mother’s day gift to use! Annie was generous enough to treat me to a new pair of running shoes for my first mother’s day, and I picked out the Brooks Pure Cadence 6. This is my first pair of Brooks after wearing Mizunos for a few years; I’m loving them!
Something Lilly could probably be on this list every week, but I had to share today because one of my favorite prints (Lobstah Roll) is back! I missed out on this print last time so I jumped at the chance to use up a gift card and snagged this top before it’s gone again.
In related Lilly news, I’m finding that the brand is baby friendly in more ways than one. Reason one- apparently I’m totally a sucker for matching mommy/baby dresses. Annie and I picked out this dress and baby shift so that we can match all summer. Reason two- Lilly prints are really great at hiding spit up! Cute AND functional.
Currently Drooling Over…
I thought I’d be watching a lot more TV these days, but actually I find myself rarely sitting down to watch something and am on the go most of the day. I do like to have something on in the background while we’re home and my go-to is usually Food Network (unless there’s a housewives marathon #sorrynotsorry).
Yesterday the Pioneer Woman made this panzanella recipe and I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. The ingredients are on my grocery list to make for the weekend. How have I never heard of panzanella? Bread, fresh veggies, basil and cheese. It’s basically all of my favorite things in a bowl.
What are you loving this week?
