I’m so mad at myself for slacking off on these updates throughout the holidays! I’m just looking back at my last ‘bumpdate’ at 17 weeks, and it feels like SO long ago! I thought I’d be one of those women religiously taking bump pics every week, but it just hasn’t happened. At any rate, I’m back again with an update at week 24.
Chickpea has started gaining more weight than length these days. We’ve been hovering around 11 inches (according to my app) for the past few weeks, but baby has now passed the 1 lb mark! Grow, baby, grow! In the produce section, we’ve reached the size of a zucchini. Hard to believe that by the time the zucchinis are ready in our garden, baby will be here and much larger than that!
Bump pictures in the bathroom seem fitting, since the bathroom and I have become BFFs lately as my my bladder seems to be losing space by the day. Lovely! Other than that, I’m just feeling ‘larger’ and experiencing all of the fun that goes along with it. I got a little short of breath bending over to put on my boots the other day, which was a bit of a reality check. Pregnancy is nothing if not a humbling experience, as things that seemed second nature become more difficult. I’ve also started to experience a slight tightening/hardening of my abdomen a few times a day, usually when I stand up or move quickly. At our monthly appointment yesterday the doctor explained that this is likely braxton hicks contractions, and aren’t an issue as long as they aren’t prolonged or happening regularly (they’re not).
I’m not sure if this counts as a symptom (it might better fit in the fun stuff category) but baby movements are coming in strong and often! I don’t think I was having any feelings of movement as of my last update, but I first started feeling something just after Thanksgiving (somewhere around 19 weeks). I’ve heard it explained like butterfly wings or a ball rolling around, but I’d describe it like bubbles or popcorn popping. The first week it was definitely very light and then it picked up throughout the month of December. Now I’m experiencing full-on punches or kicks several times throughout the day, most often at night when I first lay down. This week’s development is that it continues throughout the night. I guess that and the bathroom issues are starting to prepare me for the lack of sleep that will come with baby. Jim could feel the flutters as early as the first week that I felt them, and now they’re very obvious to anyone who puts their hand on my stomach during the kicking. It’s so much fun, but also a little strange!
Currently eating everything. I don’t know if there’s a growth spurt going on, or if I’m just giving into mindless eating more than I used to. I’m trying to keep the eating under control by making sure I have plenty of healthy options, filling up on fruits and veggies, and drinking lots of water before giving into hunger pangs. Luckily, healthy options are appealing so that’s made it pretty easy to fill up on the good stuff. Despite wanting to eat more than I normally do I don’t seem to have the room, so I’ve had to stop eating at 75% full. Meat still isn’t very appealing to me, but I think it’s starting to make a comeback. I ate a hamburger last week and enjoyed it! I still want nothing to do with chicken.
I’m living in high-rise Wunder Under pants from Lululemon when I’m not at work (and sometimes to work on a casual day, paired with a long sweater or top). Both the crops and long version seem to be the only pants that really feel comfortable. Hoping that they continue to grow with the bump!
As I mentioned yesterday, I’m celebrating the return of my espresso/cappuccino machine! I don’t know why it just now occurred to me to use decaf, but I’m glad to have a tasty beverage back in the morning. (If you’re in the market for an affordable machine, Jim got this one for me last year and I love it!)
We had a monthly checkup yesterday that was pretty uneventful. Next time around I get to do the glucose test that I’ve heard such great things about, and then our appointments become bi-weekly. Things are getting real!
And last, but probably the most fun (to me)… baby pictures! These were taken in December and we were surprised to get some 3D pictures as well as the normal ultrasound. I know it’s early, but I think Chickpea is definitely resembling his or her dad! (Baby Jim on the left, me on the right.)
Also good to see that my yoga is paying off… baby is apparently very flexible! 😉
I’m working on some more pregnancy-related posts. What would you like to see?
